If you sail in saltwater you may occasionally find small traces of surface rust appearing on your knife or multitool. The reason that this occurs is that the manufacturers need to choose the best grade of steel to be very strong and to hold a sharp edge. They could use 316 grade stainless steel which does resist saltwater corrosion, but it wouldn’t be a very good multitool. They need to make a material choice in favour of long term functionality.
The easiest way to avoid the surface rust is to wash down your knife with fresh water after use or, better still, apply some Boeshield T9 or Lanoguard. Don’t forget to secure it with a lanyard to avoid it going overboard. We hope you get years of use from your knife or multitool.
