Arthur Beale Woollen Wash – 100ml (Approx. 10 Washes)
Wrap your treasured woollens in a touch of gentle luxury with our Arthur Beale Woollen Wash, a lovingly crafted lanolin-based formula designed to care for natural fibres as tenderly as a calm sea breeze.
Infused with natural lanolin, this delicate washing liquid nourishes and revives your favourite wool garments from our Beerenberg and Erebus pullovers to any cherished knit that deserves the finest care. The soft, comforting scent evokes the timeless charm of freshly washed wool drying in the open air, carrying whispers of clean linen and quiet coastal mornings.
To hand wash, simply add one capful to a medium-sized bowl of lukewarm water, stir gently, and immerse your garment. After washing, rinse thoroughly and let your woollens rest soft, refreshed, and lightly fragranced with the essence of natural simplicity.
Perfect for travelling sailors and wanderers alike, this 100ml bottle offers around ten washes, keeping your garments sea-fresh wherever your voyage takes you.
Our biodegradable and environmentally kind formula contains no harsh chemicals and is never tested on animals. The natural lanolin restores softness and elasticity, leaving your woollens beautifully supple and “smiling fresh.”
You may also find it a delightful liquid hand soap smooth, mild, and redolent of the natural oils of the sea and land.
Ingredients: 5–15% ionic surfactants and amphoteric surfactants, lanolin, fragrance, preservatives.

Care Instructions for Wool
Our wool garments contain natural lanolin which help them to resist water, so it is best to wash them as little as possible and since our knitwear are made from unprocessed wool, they don't hold sweat like man-made fibres so they naturally rarely need laundering as they will stay fresher longer. The lanolin provides the garment with a fresh wool smell. Traditionally woollen garments would be protected from dirt while fishing or working onboard by wearing a simple canvas smock. Arthur Beale stock a range of natural canvas smocks. Over time however you may need to clean your garment, and we recommend the following method.
a) Wash in tepid (30°C) water – hot water will lead to shrinkage. Use Arthur Beale’s Woolly Wash. Immerse the pullover and gently swish and agitate by hand. Leave to soak for 5 - 10 minutes then ball up the pullover and squeeze out the water. Refill with fresh water and repeat until the water is clear when squeezing out.
b) Never wring or stretch wool when wet – this will cause the pullover to become misshapen due to the elasticity of natural wool. Just lay the pullover on a clean towel and roll them tightly together to remove the excess moisture without stretching it.
c) Dry the pullover flat – do not use the tumble dryer or the pullover will shrink radically. You can buy special mesh trays to help the air flow. Reshape the pullover whilst it is damp, squaring off the shoulders and the welt (waist) A good way to freshen a pullover between washes is to gently steam/press it with an iron on the wool or steam setting.
