Named after the Antarctic's Erebus volcano, this Arthur Beale Oiled Wool Pullover is crafted to withstand fierce cold, keeping you warm in harsh conditions.
Made in the UK from 100% certified British wool with no bleach or dye used - it is completely natural, fully biodegradable and will not then shed the harmful plastic micro fibres associated with artificial fleece and man-made fibres.
The natural lanolin oils retained in the fleece provide natural water & fire resistance and a fresh wool scent. Breathable yet substantial, it’s versatile for cold winters or cool summer evenings, and is naturally fire-resistant, odour-resistant, and manufactured in the UK with a premium finish using traditional skills and modern technology.

As this pullover contains natural lanolins which help it to resist water it is best to wash it as little as possible and since our pullovers are made from unprocessed wool, they don't hold sweat like man-made fibres so they naturally rarely need laundering as they will stay fresher longer. The lanolin provides the pullover with a fresh wool smell. Traditionally woollen pullovers would be protected from dirt while fishing or working onboard by wearing a simple canvas smock. Arthur Beale stock a range of natural canvas smocks. Over time however you may need to clean your pullover and we recommend the following method.
a) Wash in tepid (30°C) water – hot water will lead to shrinkage. Use a liquid soap such as Arthur Beale’s Woolly Wash or a 2 in 1 hair shampoo with conditioner. Immerse the pullover and gently swish and agitate by hand. Leave to soak for 5 - 10 minutes then ball up the pullover and squeeze out the water. Refill with fresh water and repeat until the water is clear when squeezing out.
b) Never wring or stretch wool when wet – this will cause the pullover to become misshapen due to the elasticity of natural wool. Just lay the pullover on a clean towel and roll them tightly together to remove the excess moisture without stretching it.
c) Dry the pullover flat – do not use the tumble dryer or the pullover will shrink radically. You can buy special mesh trays to help the air flow. Reshape the pullover whilst it is damp, squaring off the shoulders and the welt (waist) A good way to freshen a pullover between washes is to gently steam/press it with an iron on the wool or steam setting.

I just bought this winter pullover at a great discount for £90. Stored it away unworn until the autumn/winter months so cannot comment regarding its suitability.
Thanks to the ribbed pattern, pulling it on is like receiving an instantly warm hug. The wool conforms to your body shape without being too tight and still allows the skin to breathe.
What a substantial piece of kit. It’s now the warmest of record so I can’t describe the thermal characteristics as I started to sweat just putting it on. I’ll have to wait till the autumn to really review the warmth but the quality of the manufacture is clear and it feels lovely
This item is a great fit, and the boat neck enables some 'breathing space', allowing for pairing with a collared shirt. The wool is enveloping and soft. I ordered a 2XL, which is luxuriously roomy and very comfortable. I only wish it had thumb holes in the sleeves like the Erebrus!
Just love it. A quality garment with rugged good looks which I can see myself wearing all winter. Personally I don’t find it itchy against the skin and will probably wear it with a merino wool long sleeved base layer.
