You'll never guess what I want it for!

A gentleman came into the shop yesterday and was browsing the pad eyes and snap hooks. I asked if he wanted some help and he said "Well actually, it's not for a boat at all, you'll never guess what it's for!". I had a little hunch and said "For hanging a chair in Selfridges atrium?". He stepped back thinking he must have walked into the Astrology shop around the corner. The thing is we sell a lot of strange things to hang strange objects.

Only a few days before Sarah Campbell had visited asking for some fishing line. As it transpired it turned out to be a bit more than fishing line that she needed and we ended up supplying various certificated wires and fittings for her "Chair" project. The reason hanging chairs is in vogue is because a charity has issued various famous artists, textile designers, architects etc with a splendid "Race Chair" which they then decorate and they are sold to raise money for the ArtRoom charity. The chairs will be on display hanging in Selfridges Atrium.

The Art Room is a charity aimed at 5 - 16 year olds who are experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. There are currently nine Art Rooms in schools in Oxfordshire, London and Edinburgh offering art as therapy to increase children’s self-esteem, self-confidence and independence. http://www.theartroom.org.uk/

At Arthur Beale's we enjoy a bit of a wacky project - let's face it, it is a bit of a wacky shop. I think Sarah's Race Chair looks lovely, I wonder what the other ones will look like. Sarah has posted a nice tale about her project on her blog.
