Arthur Beale's New Sailors' Smocks

Our new smocks have arrived and they are selling like hot cakes! We wanted a decent piece of workwear that we could sell at a moderate price. A smock that was tough and very practical but something that wouldn't make you go berserk if it got a splash of anti-fouling on it. So now we have a Sailors' Smock made from tough natural sailcloth which will improve with age. The canvas cuts out chilly wind so they are great over a tee shirt in the summer or a pullover in the winter. There are two large...

Ok, its true we were hoping to have it ready for Beale Park but one thing and another got in the way and that didn't quite happen. In any case we haven't had one for 400 years so why rush it now! However we are on the cusp of going to print just a few things to tidy up and we will press the button. They are off today to try to buy some "toys" for their new boatyard in Ullapool. http://www.johnsonandloftus.co.uk/ Arthur Beale supplied the rigging with these useful roll swaged eyes perfect for the Dyneema lashings. If you need any...

Flying 10 by Johnson and Loftus - Stop Press! THEY WON!!!

Our friends Tim and Dan have just built this lovely Flying 10 which they will be exhibiting at the Dinghy Show this weekend. Before they can enter the Concours d'Eegance the boat has to be sailed so here they are in Loch Broom with show capped peaks in the background enjoying what must be the greatest pleasure of building a boat - the first sail! Our minor part in this beautiful boat was supplying the rigging. We used these handy swaged eyes so that 3 mm Dyneema D Pro could be lashed to the...

Starting to think about painting and varnishing?

Any minute now the sun will come out and you will feel racked with guilt that the tiller is still on the bench in the garage, you haven't planned a weekend to antifoul and you promised that this year you would give those bilges a good going over. Don't worry you're not alone! You might not think of Arthur Beale as a place to buy your paint and varnish but you could be pleasantly surprised! We have just produced a new Paints and Varnish Catalogue that we hope to release on 23rd February. We have...

Emergency Navigation Lights

In the past we have supplied some pretty appalling dross which describes itself as "Emergency Navigation Lights". They remind me of CATNAPs which in certain engineering worlds apparently stands for " C heapest A vailable T echnology to N arrowly A void P rosecution". Pretty much useless items. So when a friend asked me if we could supply some for her yacht I was a bit concerned. She needed to make a daytime passage but if the wind wasn't favourable and she lost the flood then it could end up...
