London Fashion Week - An Antidote?

London is buzzing with all the top fashion designers showing off their beautiful clothes. We are very proud to be part of this great international city with its hugely successful fashion industry. But if fashion is to do with searching for the latest trends then Arthur Beale's clothing is probably the exact opposite. We simply can't keep up with changing colours and different styles so we just stick to timeless classics. Take our Arthur Beale Beerenberg pullovers. They are made from undyed and...

A Cunning Plan

I have asked all my friends who have boats on the East Coast if they would like to have an end of season meet-up in Brightlingsea. I rashly promised fair winds to all. That would be fair enough, but the yachts are coming from all over the place. So here is my cunning plan. I hereby appeal to all the good folk of Brightlingsea to get out their finest Henry Hoovers and turn them on full blast during the morning of 23 rd September (in any case, you know your stair carpet could do with a clean)...

St Katharine Classic Boat Festival - This Weekend!

The St Katharine Docks Classic Boat Festival is part of the annual Totally Thames celebration. Arthur Beale have had a stand there for the last three years and we love it! This year our stand will be displaying our brand new Sailors' Smocks and the best Oiled Wool Pullover in town. What's more we will be offering special show deals so don't miss your chance. If you are at a loose end this evening.....

....where better to be than at Arthur Beale's cool basement celebrating the launch of our brand new Rope Reference Catalogue! It will be a very ropey evening indeed. You can collect your new Rope Reference Catalogues whilst sipping a very special rum punch. I say "special" because I know the ingredients are rum, cane syrup and lime juice and I know the ratio is 3,2,1 but I'm not sure which order they are in. By the way, the rum will be Fair Transport Rum which was sailed across the Atlantic on...

Arthur Beale Rope Reference Catalogue Launch 20th July

To celebrate our new Rope Reference Catalogue we are going to have a mini celebration! We've a fine bottle of Fair Transport Rum which has arrived in the UK under sail alone - via the Atlantic by the tall ship Tres Hombres and the final North Sea leg in my little Vertue. We will be serving tots in our basement (plus a few beers) and handing out copies of the catalogue with staff on hand to discuss all things "Ropey". The catalogue has been printed and a copy can be downloaded here;...

Johnson and Loftus Flying 10 wins Concours d'Elegance at RYA Dinghy Show

Congratulations to Dan and Tim for winning the coveted Concours d'Elegance prize for their beautifull Flying 10. A well deserved award for their efforts. They even made the foundry to cast the keel themselves. They are off today to try to buy some "toys" for their new boatyard in Ullapool. http://www.johnsonandloftus.co.uk/ Arthur Beale supplied the rigging with these useful roll swaged eyes perfect for the Dyneema lashings. If you need any...

Flying 10 by Johnson and Loftus - Stop Press! THEY WON!!!

Our friends Tim and Dan have just built this lovely Flying 10 which they will be exhibiting at the Dinghy Show this weekend. Before they can enter the Concours d'Eegance the boat has to be sailed so here they are in Loch Broom with show capped peaks in the background enjoying what must be the greatest pleasure of building a boat - the first sail! Our minor part in this beautiful boat was supplying the rigging. We used these handy swaged eyes so that 3 mm Dyneema D Pro could be lashed to the...

Another successful evening!

On Thursday evening we had a virtually full house to hear Philip Temple talking about the adventurous expedition that he took part in to land on the remote Antarctic Heard Island and then climb its 9,000ft volcano which happens to be the highest peak in Australian Terriory. The yacht was skippered by none other than H. W. Tilman. The story is also told in full in the newly released book "The Sea and the Snow" which would make a great read for anyone interested in expedition sailing. The...
