The Arctic Forum and the NEW Website Arctic Forum

On Wednesday 3rd February we held our Arctic Forum. We were delighted that two of our clients who sailed to Svalbard last year were willing to give a presentation of their expeditions. Originally I envisaged a small gathering upstairs in the shop but soon the place reservations came in and we needed to book the wonderful church just over the road. We often use the hall at the back of the church but there was another meeting in there on a totally unrelated subject (maybe not!) so if any of you...

A Shackleton Evening

Arthur Beale has been selling a few products from The Shackleton Company with great success. The Shackleton Company make products inspired by the great man himself. All the products are British Made whenever possible and of the very best quality. The evening will be a collaboration between our companies and will be a chance to see the entire range of their excellent products which include beautiful leather shoes, hand-made banjos and Fedora hats. There will be an oppotunity to make purchases at a special "on the night" prices. Whilst you are browsing we will have a banjo player and a...

EVENT

Mr Cecil Coleman

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Cecil Coleman. Many of you will have known him over the many years he worked, managed and owned Arthur Beale. He started working for the Company in 1956 and remained actively involved until last year – a truly remarkable 59 years. He started as a shop assistant and rose to become General Manager for many years before purchasing the company itself in 1994. His contribution to Arthur Beale cannot be understated. Without a doubt, if it hadn’t been...

Arthur Beale Arctic Forum

Wednesday 3rd February Don't miss this chance to learn from two experienced sailors who ventured to Spitsbergen last year on two seperate expeditions. We welcome everyone to our events so you don't need to be an expert to join in the fun. Gareth Watkins and Guillaume Danis will do a joint presentation of their seperate voyages. We will then open up to the floor for questions. Ask about Polar Bears, ice conditions, worst moments or whatever comes to mind. It will be an ideal opportunity for...

It's getting cold!

We are now back from the London Boat Show and trying to sort out all the stock! Arthur Beale is looking a bit like a bombsite but we should be shipshape very soon. Outside the temperatures are falling and people are really appreciating our Devold Expedition Merino Thermals. Devold was the choice of Acrtic explorers like Amundsen and Nansen for their Polar expedition. These thermals are soft, breathable, warmest by weight, won't hold odour and they are even warm when wet. Although they are the...

London Boat Show

We borrowed a vacuum cleaner after ours conked out and the stand actually looks pretty good. Some visitors reckoned it is the nicest stand at the show but maybe they are just being nice! Best deal of the show seems to be our Icom M25 handheld VHF at a brilliant price of just £109.95 but with a free gizmo which you can pre-charge and use to power up your handheld when no power is around (worth £15.00) and a usb whatsit that you can stick in a cigarette lighter socket. I wish I needed one but...

London Boat Show Opens Tomorrow

Oh dear, it's almost 9pm and we haven't got the vacuum cleaner sorted, we haven't priced everything up or even got everything on display. I haven't sorted out the press release so I'll probably have to busk it. It's all a bit of a shambles but I expect a few hours of frantic tidying in the morning will make it look splendid-ish. Our delivery of merino thermals and woollens from Norway only arrived at 4pm today - at least it arrived unlike quite a lot of other gear. Never mind, there's plenty of...
